Beautiful, quiet but quite remote.

Maya was stunning. I went with my 5 sisters for 6 nights and we each had our own sumptuous bedroom retreat. Bathrooms were outside with rain showers. The main pool is perfect. Comfortable sun loungers and plenty of sun or shade. Staff cooked our meals and made up rooms daily. We decided from their suggested menu daily and put in money as needed. Staff arranged for girls to come to massage us whenever we wished, although we weren’t very thrilled with the quality of service. They chatted on phones and to each other as they worked which was a little annoying and massages were a bit ordinary and quite rough. One day we went to Echo Beach for a sunset dinner. It’s about 20 minuets drive. We were driven by their driver who also took us to Canggu for a shopping day. Having said that, there were a few things that would deter us from repeating our stay. It was quite remote. There was nowhere to walk to and the property has many steps to get to and from the rooms. We felt just slightly unsafe at night which surprised me as I’m not a nervous type. We were quite spread out from each other which would probably be a plus if you were staying as couples in the rooms. There is constant noise from roosters, pigs and dogs barking. It’s in a village setting and it’s to be expected. The surroundings are very stunning and staff were friendly. We had a 2 meter iguana hop in the pool for a swim one day. It’s set right on a river which gave the place a distinct musty smell. If you’re with a group of friends and want to relax, read and swim for a few days I would highly recommend it. Just take earplugs for the roosters.

Maya Retreat (and a little love for Canggu Terrace, too)

Aloha! Our group from Hawaii was FLOORED by this villa. 12 adults, ages 30-60 all fell in love. The pictures are REAL guys! Made and Chica, the whole staff in fact, pampered us... but in such a familial way! They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, as well as our overall Bali experience. They communicated with drivers/ tour coordinators / spa therapists for us. The made sure we always had a ride and a meal available. I rented another villa for the remaining 4 members of our group. The differences were there, but both Elite Havens properties exceeded expectation. Villa Maya Retreat was more comfy, family style; not just in decor/space needs, but also food and service style. Our meals at Maya Retreat were prepped for a group, and were a little less refined than our compatriots at Villa Canggu Terrace (they ordered individually, and had restaurant-worthy food presentation). Always yummy, tho! And the decor of Canggu Terrace was a bit more elegant. These are simply style differences; again, BOTH villas were amazing, and BOTH of these luxurious styles are GREAT! :) I will ALWAYS recommend this service, and these two villas specifically. I also highly recommend the Babi Guling dinner experience. Hire the performers! 15 instruments and 6 dancers performed in our living room... at less than US$300! Mahalo to everyone at Elite Havens.

A Hidden Bali Treasure

We had never heard of Cepaka in Bali but it is a beautiful and quiet haven about half an hour from all the main Bali attractions. Villa Maya is ideal if you want time out any are happy to just veg. The staff are super helpful and nothing is too much trouble. In-house dining options are plentiful and tasty although we preferred to take advantage of the van and head out for dinner on a few nights. Suggest ordering the suckling pig and the whole market fish as a special dining treat. We followed up our 7 night stay at Maya with 5 nights in Seminak which I think was a good balance if you want some time-out but a real taste of Bali.

Truly amazing Balinese style experience

Eight of us spent a wonderful week at Villa Maya Retreat. The Villa is amazing with so many places to sit and relax and plenty of little nooks with statues, gardens and ponds. It was so relaxing that time seemed to stand still and none of us wanted to leave. The staff; Made, Cika & Kedak were wonderful the whole time. Made assisted us with all of our needs including shopping and driving us where we wanted to go. Cika and Kedak cooked some amazing meals for us every day. Bali omelettes for breakfast and Chika’s Chicken Curry were our groups favourites. The Villa is spacious and well laid out with each bedroom having its own privacy and outdoor bathroom. Three of the rooms had their own plunge pools and the main pool was so inviting deep and warm. The young adults spent many hours just floating in the pool. As previously mentioned the villa is away from Bali’s popular spots. Made was always happy to drive us wherever we wished to go, but allow at least 40 mins to get anywhere. We had a special celebration during our visit and Made arranged a Balinese dance troupe to give us a private performance as well as a delicious suckling pig. The staff also decorated the Villa with flowers and balloons. I highly recommend Villa Maya Retreat and hope I have another opportunity to visit such a wonderful place.

Location

Villa Maya Retreat is located in a jungle-surrounded river gorge close to the pretty village of Cepaka in Bali's Tabanan Regency. This area is also known as Bali's 'rice bowl' due to its vast terraced rice fields. Guests can venture out on foot or bicycle and gain an insight into the agricultural, religious and daily life of the villagers. The famous sea temple of Tanah Lot and the Nirwana Bali Golf Course, voted the number one golf course in Asia, are located about 11 kms away from the villa. The sea here is more suited for surfing than swimming.

Description

Enchanting villa overlook the penet river

Villa Maya Retreat rests on the banks of the Penet River that flows through the pretty village of Cepaka in the heart of Bali's 'rice bowl'. This six-bedroom villa is shaded by natural jungle vegetation and lush tropical gardens. The living and sleeping pavilions offer total peace and privacy while maximising the serene river views. The residence has a 12-metre swimming pool, three plunge pools, numerous relaxation bales and secret garden hangouts to relax and unwind.

Descend the steep stone staircase that carves its way down the river gorge and you will be captivated by the beauty and tranquillity of Villa Maya Retreat. Traditional thatch-roofed pavilions overlook the fast flowing Penet River and clusters of towering bamboo. While the villa may have an out-of-the-way rural setting, it has everything you need at your fingertips. A full complement of staff, including an experienced chef, is on hand to prepare and serve delicious home-cooked Asian and Western meals. A car and driver is also on standby for those eager to explore the island or visit Seminyak's trendy restaurants, bars and shops.

Villa Maya Retreat has six stand-alone bedrooms, (three with plunge pools) and is perfect for families, friends or groups looking to share their holiday experience. Outdoors, the swimming pool supports a large wooden deck with six sun loungers shaded by white ceremonial umbrellas. One end of the pool has an alfresco dining area, while to the other end a traditional style bale adorned with batik cushions provides respite from the heat. A furnished terrace overhanging the river offers an idyllic setting for pre-dinner drinks. Next to the terrace rests a huge curtained bale which is a great place to enjoy a massage and be soothed by the sounds of the river.
