Amazing stay

The setting above the beach is idyllic and the architecture of the house is distinctive. The house is comfortable (even better than the photos) and the pool is lovely. Everyone at the villa is very kind - we experienced Sri Lankan hospitality at its best. Madura the chef is amazing. The variety of his curries is endless. We also had the freshest of seafood - squid, whole jack fish, mahi mahi, lobsters etc Madura takes great pride in his vegetable garden and we learn how to make bread with him. His western cooking is also delicious (try seafood pasta). With the lovely service at the villa, we just relaxed and didn't go our at all during our 4 night stay. The beach is pristine and it is accessible from the garden. You can see monkeys playing in the trees. Though we cannot swim during this season, the walks are most enjoyable. Sri Lanka takes good care of its environment; we do not find plastic everywhere as one might in Bali or Phuket. Hope it stays that way. What makes our stay so memorable is Wally the dog - we miss her already! She is such good company and so well behaved (never begs for food). We love the way she plays like a puppy and then walk off purposefully to do her rounds. Do not hesitate to book this villa and remember to take Wally for beach walks. She loves it! We would definitely want to be back. The booking process with Eden Villas is very smooth and everyone there is very helpful.

Quite simply stunning and unmissable!

From the moment you walk down the steps into the hillside home, you are enchanted by the architecture and surrounds, with three stunning bedrooms surrounding an open area for lounging by the ample pool. And then the food starts.... Madura, the chef, previously worked as a chef at Nobu in Dubai and in the Maldives. His cooking is exquisite, but more importantly, nothing is too much trouble, even catering for this westerner's tricky dietary requirements. The other staff need no lessons in hospitality either, including Wally the loveable ex-Police dog, who enjoys nothing more than snuggling up to you are playing on the lush lawns. Our group of four had the house to ourselves, as is the usual deal, and while we only stayed three days, we agreed that it was the best part of our trip to Sri Lanka. It is a must!

Heaven on earth

Possibly the most perfect setting for Christmas in the sun! The house is amazing, the staff are excellent, food amazing whilst being situated in a beautiful setting just above a stunning beach. Highly recommended!!!!!!

Blissful from start to finish!

The Walatta House is a very special place. Its garden leads straight onto a great little beach, the house is gorgeous and almost entirely outdoor except for the bedrooms meaning you are in and surrounded by nature the whole time and the staff are exceptional. I booked some time ago and was very worried about one terrible review a while ago... beach access was described as 'beyond dangerous' but we found a steepish slope but no danger at all. We also found that many other points did not match up to our experience. We found the property was kept to an excellent standard and we were waited on hand and foot by Madura and his great team. Meals were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We did yoga overlooking the sea and enjoyed massages every other day - all organised by the team. We would go back in an instant!

Wish I could stay longer...

Amazing villa and its surrounding and very nice, professional team to make your stay so memorable. Unfortunately I could spend only 2 days, but hopefully I return some day... Awesome location, views and sunsets on the nearby beaches. The pool is fantastic...wish I could stay longer...The local team is incredible proffesional and friendly. They think on your individual needs before your arrival - really something that you do not face on other places...I do thank you for unforgettable stay...

Walatta met all our expectations... and more

Walatta met all our expectations and more. We're a family of 4, 2 boys aged 5 and 7. The architecture and design of the house was very special with a balanced mix of outdoor and indoor living, and the interiors are super stylish and functional. The property is walking distance to a very private beach. There are some other holiday villas close by but the beach was not crowded at all. There is a very sweet bar at the beach for a late afternoon drink and fresh mussels. The walatta staff were great. The food was outstanding. One morning we walked to a nearby beach to watch the fishing boats come in and the house chef (alwis) was down there selecting our fresh fish for the day. We travelled to nearby beaches for some surfing and adventuring which was all very easy but to be honest we ended up just staying at the villa and enjoying it... our boys still talk about chasing the fireflies at night. We can't recommend it enough if you're wanting a relaxing and grounding holiday.

Amazing, stunning place, beautiful house and the most wonderful staff.

Myself my husband and our 4 year old son stayed for nearly 3 weeks in Walatta House. It is without a doubt the most amazing place we have ever stayed (and we have stayed in some great places around the world). It saddens me to read the previous post that someone wrote so negatively about the place and complain about towels etc.....(the towels are fine by the way!) I think they have missed the point of the place. The house is amazingly well designed. Its simple yet elegant. I can't remember who the architect was but it reminded me of Geoffrey Bawa or Carlo Scarp....Its really amazing to be able to stay in such a great house. The view is stunning, right over the sea. We spent most of our days lounging by the pool or wandering down to the little beach for a swim and sunbath. (again ignore their complaints of how steep it is- yes its abit steep but our 4 year old managed it perfectly well, and if it was built closer to the sea you would loose the amazing views you get from where the house is built). The staff are all fantastic, and they were always professional and always respected your privacy but at the same time would gladly let our son potter about with them and chat away, our son really loved the security guard and would sit and chat to him for ages, he also really loved the gardener who spoke no English but his smile and positivity were infectious and he would show Tommy things in the garden and communicate without either of them able to speak each others language. They were truly wonderful, kind people. Wally the dog wandering about and joining us at the beach was great too...... The food is amazing. Alwys made the best food we had on our entire trip, he would also make less spicy versions of what we had for our son, or something entirely different. The breakfasts were insane! Beyond amazing! Sheehan one of the helpers would climb up the palm trees most days and pick a fresh coconut for our son. I really cannot stress how lovely everyone was and how helpful. I would go back tomorrow if I could.

Wonderful time at Walatta House

Lovely holiday villa We had a lovely stay at Walatta and were looked after really well by the team. The house design is modern with the whole of the front is open facing the pool and ocean. There is an inner courtyard garden with openings to the elements. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean with welcoming air con and the bathrooms are inside outside. There is an inner room with Sat TV to keep the kids happy in the evening whilst we dined on Alwis's cooking. We went shopping to the fresh markets with Alwis one day which was fun to haggle for fish but it was no means required. On other days all receipts were presented to us in an easy format and we were able to budget. The beach is accessed down the slope, that might be slippery when wet, and was wonderfully deserted. The sea can be rough and children should not be left out of sight. The pool in the villa has views out to sea. There is a deck built into the hillside on which we did yoga in the mornings and relaxed on in the afternoons. Wonderful. In all a lovely holiday...we will be back

Best place to relax and enjoy

We arrived to the house to stay for 4 nights. I wish it would have been longer. The house is beautiful. The pool inviting and perfect if you like to swim. It is not wide but it is 20 meter long and perfect for some laps. The crew working there are wonderful. They are very attentive and willing to do whatever it is to make your stay very comfortable. Short walk down to the beach where you are completely alone Ina nice sandy beach. The rooms are well kept and comfortable. Beds are great and for extra comfort you have mosquito nets. You can close the wood doors to have privacy or have them open to have the nice light in the morning The food made by the house cook is delicious. You can choose the menu and have a wonderful time We were told to order wine before coming. We got a list. It worked wonderfully. Enjoy this place in quite and comfort. We did.

The exotic Walatta House is an incredibly stylish but laid-back house located on the south coast of Sri Lanka near Tangalle. The house sits in the middle of a beautiful plot of land and is incredibly private, while being close to all the amenities of Tangalle. It is surrounded by expansive gardens and provides direct access to the beach. The villa is around 3 hours from the airport using the new tollway. Guests can enjoy easy access to activities and attractions such as Wevurukannala Buddha Statue, Dondra temple, Mulkirigala, and Uda Walawe National Park.

Cancellation Policy

* For cancellations more than 60 days before the arrival date 80% of the total rental amount, minus a USD 150 administration fee, will be refunded.
* For cancellations and/or amendments 30 - 60 days before the arrival date, 50% of the final booking amount, minus USD 150 in administration fees, will be refunded.
* For cancellations 1 - 29 days before the arrival date and for no -shows, no refund will be made.
* During peak periods, 30 days will be added to all cancellation periods.
* A refund may be offered, if the Villa is re-let for the same duration and at the same rates.
* Any amendments that reduce the total rental amount will be treated as a partial cancellation and may be subject to the cancellation fees stated above.
* Any amendments that involve the booking of another property altogether, will be treated as a cancellation of the original booking and the creation of a new one.
* In the unlikely event a villa booking is cancelled by the owner, the owner will attempt to secure a booking in an alternative property of the same standard, at the same rates. If this is not possible, a full refund will be made.

Payment Terms

* Prices quoted are in US Dollars, are listed by the Villa Owners and are subject to change without prior notice. However, once a deposit or payment has been received, the prices will not be amended for the dates of the rental.
* All payments are to be made in US dollars unless an exchange rate for other currencies has been agreed on prior to the payment being made.
* Bookings more than 30 days before the date of arrival will require a 50% deposit to confirm the booking. The full payment must be received 30 days (60 days if peak period) before the date of arrival. No reminder will be sent and failure to pay on time may result in a loss of the booking.
* Bookings made within 30 days of the date (60 days if peak period) of arrival, will require full payment.
* Once the deposit or payment has been received, a final booking confirmation will be sent.
* A security deposit equivalent of one night rent will be payable in US Dollars, in cash, on arrival at the villa. This deposit will be used against any damages or charges incurred during the stay. The difference or full amount will be returned in USD on the day of departure. If the charges cannot be determined at the time of departure, the Owner is entitled to withhold a reasonable estimate from your security deposit and will return any balance as soon as the actual cost has been determined.

Description

An architectural masterpiece with stunning views

Walatta House is an architectural masterpiece that offers a perfect mix of modernism and ethnicity. Partially ‘submerged’ into a hillside, it provides 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean. The open-plan layout and design maximizes the interaction between the indoors and out to create a sense of openness and space. The landscape is used as an integral element in the design with the living room opening onto and offering stunning views across the infinity pool to the ocean, the beaches and beyond. The bedrooms also seem to extend naturally into courtyards to allow for maximum airflow and natural ventilation while the heat-absorbing grass minimizes air-conditioning.

Walatta House has 3 bedrooms all with en-suites and all air-conditioned. Two of the bedrooms have double beds while the third has one twin and is ideal for children sharing. The bathrooms are indoor / outdoor and all bedrooms have French windows with views onto the gardens. The master bedroom has French sliding floor to ceiling windows on three sides and a small terrace overlooking pool. Passing the bedrooms, you enter the open plan and open sided sitting and dining area.

The open sided sitting and dining area of Walatta House is fitted with a teak dining table where you can enjoy meals or just relax. The TV room has a comfortable L-shaped sofa. The fully equipped kitchen allows you to prepare your own meals and also the option to have the villa's cook to prepare and pamper you with the choicest dishes. The kitchen and staff house is in a separate building adjacent to the main house. Outdoors, the rectangular infinity pool runs the length of the house while the secluded beaches are just a few metres down the slope. The tropical garden is a tranquil paradise and is ideal to relax and socialize. The villa is staffed with cook, steward, houseboy, gardener and security.
